Lyme multi organ animal-borne disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks.
Typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans.
If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system.
Most cases of Lyme disease can be treated successfully with a few weeks of antibiotic doxycycline or amoxycillin.
Steps to prevent Lyme disease include using insect repellent, removing ticks promptly, applying pesticides, and reducing tick habitat.
Indian J Dermatol Venereol Leprol. 2014 Jul-Aug;80(4):320-3. doi: 10.4103/0378-6323.136894.
Typical presentation: annular erythematous patch with a central papule or blister following an insect bite (bulls eye lesion with central ulceration).
All patients show presence of IgM antibodies to B. burgdorferi.
